I have moved!!!

Although it doesn’t looks like it but yes, I have moved my blog to a new host and now sporting a new domain name.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Cash Quest!

Why named it as Cash Quest?

Because this blog is all about my quest to make extra cash online and offline.  Now that’s one cheesy tag line, eh?  :)

Now, I will try to narrate here the activities that I’ve been doing these past few days in migrating my old blog to its new, shiny place. It all started last January 31, 2010…

      1.  Bought the domain name, cashquest.info from GoDaddy.com for $1.07.

      2. Registered at iClickster.com and availed of their FREE webhosting. Then paid the domain transfer fee of £5.90 GBP ($9.68).

      3. At GoDaddy.com, changed the details of nameservers of cashquest.info (based on the nameservers provided by iClickster.com).

      4.  Using GoTHuB’s FTP facility, created a back-up of /wp-content folder of my old blog. Saved the zipped file to my local drive.  The /wp-content folder contains all my themes, plugins, uploads, back-ups and upgrades.

      5.  Made an export file (.XML) of my old blog. This file contains all my posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.

  • At WordPress, go to Tools then Export then click on the Download Export File button

      6.  At iClickster.com control panel, installed WordPress for the first time.

      7.  At iClickster.com, uploaded the contents of my /wp-content folder.

      8.  Imported my .XML file to my new WordPress installation.

  • At WordPress, go to Tools then Import then WordPress then locate the .XML file to be imported then click on the Upload File and Import button

      9.  Tried out http://cashquest.info for the first time…… *drumrolls*

…… What the?!  Some things aren’t right.

  •  Double entry of the About page.
  • Thumbnail Images and images within each posts are not showing
  • Gadgets and widgets missing
  • Categories missing
  • Footer missing

Good thing jaggerkieth helped me fixed the issues on my newly migrated blog. Thanks dude! :)

Thanks also to isl30fvi3w and the rest of the TalkPh members for their advices and moral support. Glad to have you guys! :)

Also, I may have missed some of the procedures that I have done during this transfer and it’s a first time for me.  After all the fixes, I installed a few more gadgets and a new logo to boot!  Whew~

i wanna move to wordpress from blogspot…

  • Von (author) said:

For me, mas maganda ang WordPress kesa sa blogspot. Mas flexible and plenty of gadgets / add-ons.

free webhosts are only great if your site have very few traffic,..

  • Von (author) said:

… and they give you limited control over your site. Most of these free webhosts do not offer the choice of having your own adsense and other third party ads on them.

    Godaddy has great prices on .info domains but their private domain service is so damn expensive.*;

  • Von (author) said:

Well, .info domain is enough for me. :)

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. But think about if you added some great graphics or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this site could certainly be one of the best in its field. Terrific blog!

  • Von (author) said:

Actually, all my articles have pics on them. I haven’t tried uploading any vids tho for it might slow down my site. A link to a videoclip may be a welcome addition in the future, if necessary to the post.
